Carbogen Inspiration Enhances Hemodynamic Contrast in the Cancerous Breast
نویسندگان
چکیده
We have explored the vascular response of the breast to inspiration of Carbogen. Results show greater changes in vasoconstriction and HbSat in the tumor-bearing breast compared to the healthy contralateral breast of the same patient. Title: Enhancement of Hemodynamic Contrast in the Cancerous Breast by Carbogen Inspiration
Hallmarks of the tumor phenotype include increased stiffness [1], enhanced angiogenesis with sluggish perfusion [2], increased vascular leakiness leading to increased interstitial pressures [3], and increased metabolic demand [2]. Separately, it is known that the vascular autoregulation mechanism normally achieves a tight coupling between the vascular supply and prevailing metabolic demand, but...
متن کاملApplication of near-infrared light intensity to determine normal and cancerous breast vessel contrast by gold nanoparticles
Objective(s): A novel technique for the early diagnosis of breast cancer involves the use of nanoparticles (NPs). The present study aimed to use gold NPs to assess the variations in light source transfer intensity. Materials and Methods: Blood samples with hemoglobin (Hb) concentrations of ×1, ×2, and ×4 were used to simulate normal and cancerous conditions in the breast. Spherical gold N...
متن کاملDetecting blood oxygen level-dependent (BOLD) contrast in the breast.
PURPOSE To develop a robust technique for detecting blood oxygenation level-dependent (BOLD) contrast in the human breast and to evaluate the signal in healthy and malignant breast. MATERIALS AND METHODS The design of this study focused on determining the optimal pulse sequence and stimulus for detecting BOLD contrast in the breast. For this study a single-shot fast spin echo (SSFSE) sequence...
متن کاملDetecting gas‐induced vasomotor changes via blood oxygenation level‐dependent contrast in healthy breast parenchyma and breast carcinoma
PURPOSE To evaluate blood oxygenation level-dependent (BOLD) contrast changes in healthy breast parenchyma and breast carcinoma during administration of vasoactive gas stimuli. MATERIALS AND METHODS Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was performed at 3T in 19 healthy premenopausal female volunteers using a single-shot fast spin echo sequence to acquire dynamic T2 -weighted images. 2% (n = 9) an...
متن کاملOptimizing and Understanding BOLD Contrast Imaging in the Breast
Introduction: Blood oxygen level dependent (BOLD) contrast imaging has the potential to evaluate tumor metabolism and angiogenesis [1-3]. Variations in oxygenation may give insight on tumor types [1], predict susceptibility to antiangiogenic therapeutics [2], and monitor chemotherapeutics [4]. Specifically, BOLD contrast MRI may be increasingly useful for breast cancer detection and management....
